Chapter 9
Birth + Death + Disease + Problems +
Suffering + Pain = Human Life
Let us see what Swami wrote in my 2001 diary:
Love is a Power that transforms the soul,
Fills the heart with pleasure,
And gives life its Goal
Prayer is the door to God’s treasury
Faith is the key which opens it.
It is love alone that transforms the jeeva. It has the power to make the jeevatma into
Paramatma. Love has this much power. If we fill the heart with love, leaving no place for
anything else, this gives happiness. We must remove lust, anger, greed, attachment and
cleanse the heart. Only then, does love fill in. One must be ready to give up their life to
attain this goal. This is what Swami has preached.
It is due to the bad qualities in man that he is born and dies repeatedly. Enough of
these experiments! You have done this for thousands of births. Now, enough! Awake and
make new effort in this birth. No, not in this birth, now you try! Remove the bad qualities
and fill the heart with love. You must show love to all. In real love, there are no fences of ‘I
and mine’. So, come out from that narrow circle, broaden your mind and show love to all.
There is only one God in all. Fill your heart with love. Prayer alone is the door to the
treasury of God. Pray to Him continuously with full faith. The door will open and He
showers His rain of grace on you. When His grace is attained, the cycle of birth and death

can be crossed over quickly.

DoYouWant to be a Dog?
Swami marked the following page in Sathya Sai Speaks volume 2, from His
discourse 19 May 1962. Here is the story.
There is a story of a dog that came to Rama, bleeding from blows.
Laksmana was sent to inquire why it was in such pain. He discovered that a
Brahmin had beaten it with a stick. When asked, the Brahmin could only
give as sufficient cause that the dog was coming across his path.
So Rama asked the dog, "Well, how do you want me punish this
Brahmin?" The dog promptly gave the reply, "Make him the manager of a
temple." "What?" said Rama. "That would be a reward, not a punishment."
The dog said, "No, I was a manager and since it is next to impossible not to
mishandle or misuse or appropriate some fraction of God's money, when he
is the manager, he too will get this canine birth and perhaps get beaten too."
Remember, not only that dog and that Brahmin, but every one of you is
living off the property of God, for does not all this belong to Him? And what
do you do in return for all the benefits you derive from the property of the
Lord? You cannot eat it and sit quiet. You must at least give some physical
labour in return; he who does not work but eats is indeed a cheat. Not that
the Lord wants anything from you, but it will give self-respect and it will
purify your heart.

AVATAR' S  TASK
 CH. 4

Let us see. Swami has told since the first book itself that He is in me. He said,
“During meditation, I come from within you and we talk. I then go back inside.”
Generally, God will talk to therealizedsoul inside. This is attained by the opening of the
Sahasrara throughyoga.Mystate is different. I am born from Swami. As I haveno ‘i’, He
Himself is in me.He is there always guiding me. Before, Swami was in physical form in
Puttaparthi. After Heleftthe physical body, He came into me fully.Swami saidHis life

force also cameintome. All my and Swami’s nadis tell that Swami is in my body only.

SAIGITA PRAVATCHANAM

PROLOGUE

Let me tell how I came to write this explanation on the Gita. On 29 October 2000, in my
morning meditation, Swami said, “You are going to destroy all the evil in the world. You will
bring about a spiritual awakening in everyone. Write a commentary on the Gita incorporating
the 108 names that I have given you. The book should consist of 18 chapters and be called, Sai
Geetha Pravachanam.”
At that time, I was still writing the book Prema Nivarana Sai. Swami told me to finish that
book and start this one. Immediately, I took a sheet of paper, wrote the title, Sai Geetha
Pravachanam Chapter 1, and wrote one of the names given by Swami to me, Mohakshayayai.
This I kept on Swami’s Paduka’s. He blessed it with vibhuthi and kumkum. I chose an auspicious
time and the writing began effortlessly.

Vasantha : Swami, this Gita is being written by Your-hand, that is why I am able to
work like this.

Swami : Your hand and My hand are one. I am in you and you are in Me.

The Power of ‘I without i’
Swami gave four pages of typing with ‘Shanthi Path’ written on it. Here it tells
many different verses. Here is thefirst verse:
OmSaha NavavatuSaha Nau Bhunaktu
Saha Viryam Karavava Hai
Tejasvi Nava DhitamastuMa Vidvishava Hai
Om Shanthi Shanthi Shanthi
May He protect us both (teacher and the taught)! May He cause us
both to enjoy the bliss of Mukthi (liberation)! May we both exertto
discover the true meaning of the sacred scriptures! May our studies
be fruitful! May we never quarrel with each other! Let there be
threefold peace.(Translation:Swami Shivananda The Divine Life Society)
Swami then givesa wonderful explanation ofthemeaningofthis famous slokain
'Sathya Sai Speaks'volume 32,part1.There,it speaks of the principle of equanimity.
Let us move together and let us grow together.
Let us share the knowledge and improve upon it.

Let us live in amity and peace withoutany differences whatsoever.

Parallel Lives of Savithri and Vasantha Sai

    By: Sri Vasantha Sai

Prologue
As a divine message, Swamiindicated many parts of the text from SriAurobindo’s ‘Savithri’.* When I askedSwami He said, “You compare your lifewith that of Savithri, referring to theparts of the text I have indicated in thebook.”
When I began to read the book, Iwas very surprised as Savithri and I seemto have lived parallel lives. I thought,‘How does Sri Aurobindo know aboutme?’ In the book, he writes of the jeeva’sinner journey and shows the obstacles one has to face on the path to attain truth. He describes in detail what happens aseach chakra of kundalini is crossed.

We must perform sadhana with full effort and attain God. Everything else in this
world is perishable. Whatever one earns in life is not permanent. Money post, relatives,
none of these things can be taken with you when you leave this world. If this isrealized
clearly, then you will be greatly benefitted. This rule can be followed with anyform of
Godand you will attain Him. This is what Swami shows and declares through the Sarva
Dharma symbol. God is one; all religions are the same. God is in the heart of all as the
Indweller, the Antaryami. He is there in the state of Witness.
It is through sadhana we must awaken Him. It is then the Indweller increases
more and more in size and guides us. This is told in the 13 chapter of Bhagavad Gita
through the five stages of Upadrishta, Hanumantha, Bartha, Bhoktha and Maheswara.
God is in the heart of all as a blue light the size of the tail end of a paddy grain. Through
sadhana, the blue light grows bigger and bigger, until it occupies the entire body. In this
state, the Jeeva becomes Shiva. This is the Maheswara state.I have shown in a diagram
from the chapter Food Vidya in Beyond the Upanishads, how this blue light expands and

occupies the whole bo
dy.

The ten here in Mukthi Nilayam, have sacrificed all to live here with me. In the same way, if a 1000 people come to live here, alone or with their family, they will surely attain liberation. All will benefit greatly through reading my books and imbibing the wisdom therein.

When I wrote the book, ‘Last 7 Days of God’, I said, “All who want to live with God, come, the ashram doors are wide open. If you come here and stay, all your Karmas will vanish.” I also say to those here, ‘Stay here continually’, but who is ripe enough?

If people come in the final stages of my time here, I cannot do anything. Swami is giving 28 years to the world, to transform. I only give you 9 years. If you come here, I will surely destroy all your Karmas. However, do not take it for granted ‘Amma will free us’.

A patient goes to the doctor in the final stages of a deadly disease. The doctor tells, ‘What can I do for you now, you should have come earlier’.

Your yearning to merge with Swami and I is important. If you want, you can merge with us and return to live in Prema Sai Avatar. Youngsters and those who want to continue to live in Sathya Yuga can do so. They can live in Mukthi Nilayam and carry on the task of leading others on the path.

When he made this vow, he immediately recovered. When we sacrifice worldly life for God, Karma reduces. Sometimes it may even disappear completely. I will discuss this later in the book.

Karmas act very subtly in our lives. Sometimes Swami’s Special Grace showers and all Karmas vanish. However, we should not think this is a common occurrence. In the book Prema Nivarana Sai, I wrote how many people recovered from their dangerous diseases through my prayers. The Karma, which caused the illness, was fully wiped out.

SV suffered from gallstones. The doctors advised him to have an operation. He came here and I applied vibuthi on his stomach and prayed. When he went back to the doctor for another scan, the stones had disappeared. All these examples reveal how Swami’s Special Grace functions.

Immortality is only attained through sacrifice. Without sacrifice, we cannot lessen Karma. Action, children or wealth cannot bestow immortality; it is only through sacrifice. This is why when one lives for God alone sacrificing all, his Karmas are annihilated. Here is an example.

In my childhood, a sanyasi called Rajaramswamji used to come to our house often. I once asked him, “How did you become sanyasi?” He said, “I had a spinal tumor. No treatment was available and I was told I would die. I vowed that if I was cured and survived, I would offer my life to God. The tumor disappeared and I took sanyas.”

If every family sacrifices one person to live for God alone, their Karma will not affect them so severely. An example. Nirmala has been with me for many years. She has sacrificed all to live here in Mukthi Nilayam. Last year, her sister was put in prison, leaving her newborn child. Nirmala cried. I prayed to Swami and within a week her sister was released. Sometime later, she received a phone call that her brother had been admitted to hospital with an aneurism on the brain. I prayed to Swami. He recovered shortly afterwards. She told me only once. I also prayed only one time for each of them. How was all resolved? All happened due to Nirmala’s sacrifice and faith. If one has complete sacrifice, Karma ceases to have an adverse effect. Without sacrificing, without living for God, some ask, ‘Can’t our Karma be changed or lessened?’ The answer is no. I have written in the previous chapter all must experience their own Karmas. Through the examples of the two families, you will understand the functioning of Karmic law. The following sloka from the Upanishads tells,

‘Na Karmana Na prajaya Na DhanenaThyageineke Amrutatwa Manasu’

In 28 years, all those who transform themselves will attain the Absolute state, Poornam. Those old devotees who were with Swami in the beginning, those who have realized who He is, those who live in thoughts of God night and day, will attain Poornam. The saints and sages also will be Poornam. They will live in the Sathya Yuga in the state of Poornam and will not be born again when the yuga ends after a 1000 years time.

My feelings are being transmitted through the Stupi, filling the space and removing the negative vibrations in the world. I have written this in the chapter ‘Incubator’. My feelings are inside the Stupi. The Stupi is like an incubator, which protects the Sathya Yuga from outside influence. Swami said it covers the Sathya Yuga like a sheet, nothing negative can enter.
An example. During an operation, an anesthetic is administered to the patient. If a patient is in great pain, a morphine injection is given; no pain is felt. This is because morphine is a very strong drug. Its effect will remain for some time; when it wears off, the pain returns.
In the same way, my feelings stop evil feelings from entering the Space. This will continue for a 1000 years. This is the Sathya Yuga. In the closing years of Sathya Yuga, the Karmas that remain still and inactive will gradually become active. The balance of Karmas and evil feelings will again start to function.
This Avatar has come to preach love. Love creates unity benefiting all. Without love, families separate. All in the world are separated through politics, religion, caste and creed. Everywhere there is hatred and enmity. Swami has descended to transform the world. For the past 80 years, He has spoken about love in many different ways. Yet how many have transformed?

17 December 2008 Noon meditation

Vasantha : Swami, at the end of Sathya Yuga, how do the old Karmas reappear? Where were they until then?
Swami : The power of your feelings inactivates the Karmas and makes them still. At the end of Sathya Yuga, they will return.
Vasantha : Swami, Swami, I want You. I do not want anything else.
Swami : How many times you say this.
Vasantha : It is my life’s breath.
Swami : With the in breath you are saying, ‘I want You, I want God’ and with the out breath, ‘I do not want anything. I do not want anything’. These feelings are going to the Stupi and filling the world.

7
      in breath out breath
One should not interfere in others Karma. I wrote this in the chapter, ‘The Subtlety of Karma’ in Liberation Here Itself Right Now Pt 2. If one tries to lessen the Karmic load of another, he will have to suffer some negative effects. So do not enter others Karma.
If one person in a family is suffering due to his past actions, his family members cannot say, ‘I will carry your burden’.
On a journey, a family has many pieces of luggage. All share the load saying, ‘I will take these bags and you take those’. Sharing and exchanging is common at these times. It is not the same with Karma; none can carry your Karmic load for you.
There is only one way to lighten the load and that is through total surrender to God. If we pray to God and surrender to Him, the burden of Karmas will not affect us. If God’s Special Grace is bestowed on us, the Karma can even be changed. This though is not a common occurrence.

Prasanthi Nilayam is not the right place for sadhus. Swami is telling that they should live in an ashram. Prasanthi Nilayam is different from an ashram. In an ashram only sadhus reside. It is a place where those who have the intense thirst to attain God live. In Prasanthi Nilayam, God Himself resides and people of many differing natures come to see Him.
After reading this, I understood why Swami asked me to begin Mukthi Nilayam Ashram. In an ashram only a few who have a similar nature live. Prasanthi Nilayam is like a temple. Many different kinds of people, with different natures, come for darshan. It has a festive feel to it. Here in Mukthi Nilayam it is different. It is place, which is most appropriate for intense sadhana. A temple is not so. The main program in the ashram is sadhana. Here, the atmosphere is very quiet and peaceful. Swami wanted this, so He told me to begin the ashram in 2002.
