Man is
His Own Worst Enemy
On page 126 of Aurobindo's book on Savithri,
Swami marked the following
passage:
... The task of the world redeemer is hard; the world He
comes
to save, itself becomes His Adversary. Man refuses to
accept Him;
only a few are saved. Till the Evil is slain, the labour
must go on.
One who will accomplish this high task may yet come. He will
invade the last posts of Ignorance and Inconscience with the
undying Light of God and conquer Matters sleep. Then only
shall
His task be done.
All Avatars
come to redeem humanity. Yet, when they descend, all only face
suffering. The world refuses
to believe in them. This happens in the time of each and
every
Avatar.
In Rama’s period, all viewed Him as an ordinary man. He also did not reveal
Himself as God. He was only the son of King Dasaratha. It was only after the demons
were
destroyed that He was accepted by some as God. Most saw Him as a king until His
last moments. If it were understood He was God,
it would not have been possible for a
dhobi to enter His life and find fault with His Devi. Yet, whatever happens,
God’s task
must
go on.
In Krishna
Avatar, all considered Him a cowherd
boy. From birth itself, He had
many
enemies. Many came and tried to kill Him. These enemies continued their attack
until
the end. Krishna did not want
to be involved in worldly life
and He never ruled a
kingdom.
He was not a king, but a kingmaker. His task carried on and He preached the
Bhagavad
Gita on the battlefield, showing mankind the righteous path. Through this, H

guided all. His enemies
remained opposing Him until His last. Only some realized
He
was
God and benefitted.
In
the same way, Swami came as Avatar. Many opposed Him and were enemies at
the beginning. They even wrote fabrications about Him in the newspapers. Once,
someone gave Him poison,
wanting to kill Him. Another
time, someone tried to shoot
Him. In this way, many things happened. Yet, His task never stopped.
It must be
victorious.
