Thought for the day

Freedom is touching God with pure Love. To touch the world is attachment.

From the book May 27 to May 27

WHOSE EYE?
Though my sight is very poor in both eyes, I am very firm that I should not go to a
doctor. I had been using the same pair of glasses for the last ten years though they had
many scratches. S.V. suggested that we consult an eye specialist. I refused. I said that we
would go to an optical shop and change the glasses if necessary. I asked Swami and He
said that I could go. When we were in the shop, the shop keeper checked the glasses and
said the left lens has a power of minus twelve and the right lens is plain; he persuaded
me to have the eyes tested by a doctor and asked why I was using plain glass in the right
eye. I recounted the following…
A few years ago, I had a cataract operation on the right eye and was given a lens of
plus five. The doctor asked me to return in three months to have cataract operation on
the left eye, but I managed with poor vision and did not go back. After one and half years,
I suddenly started to lose vision in the right eye, so we went to an eye specialist in
Virudhunagar. She said, “You have lost the retina in your right eye; a major operation is
needed.” We consulted the family doctor, who advised not to undergo surgery as it is
very complicated and rarely successful; he then gave me a plain glass for my right eye.
On that day, I decided that I would never undergo surgery. I thought, “It is God’s will. If
He wants, let Him give me eyesight. Otherwise, I will remain like this. Swami alone
should give me eyesight. I will not go to any doctor.”
I prayed to Swami and wrote a letter to Him. After a couple of months, I was able to
see with my right eye normally. “The retina came back!” I told everyone. However, I was
still finding it difficult to read properly. I used the left eye more and the cataract in it was
bad. The family insisted that I have an operation but I refused.
After hearing all this, the shop man was very surprised and said, “No retina means
no eye. How are you able to see?” He checked my vision again and exclaimed, “It is a big
miracle. It is only due to God’s grace that you have eyesight!” However, he said that I
should see an eye doctor. For now, he would only change the frame and give new glasses
with same power.
